ROSEMARY MCKENNA

— DIRECTOR

Originally from Northern Ireland, Rosemary studied English Literature and Drama at Trinity College Dublin. She was introduced to the world of professional theatre in her third year at university, as an assistant director to Selina Cartmell on her award winning production of Medea at the Dublin Fringe Festival.

Rosemary made her own professional debut when her undergraduate production of Enda Walsh’s Bedbound was picked up by The New Theatre, Dublin, for a six week run. The production was noted among the Sunday Times theatre highlights of 2011.

After graduating, Rosemary was accepted onto the prestigious artist development programme, Rough Magic SEEDS. As part of this scheme Rosemary assisted on a number of the company’s productions including Improbable Frequency, The Housekeeper and The Critic. She also assisted Jeremy Herrin on Hero at The Royal Court Theatre. The SEEDS programme also enabled Rosemary to travel and to engage with theatre and artists internationally.

In December 2013 Rosemary directed a production of Juan Mayorga’s Way To Heaven at The Project Arts Centre, Dublin, for which she was nominated as Best Director at The Irish Times Theatre Awards.

Rosemary has directed numerous new plays and Irish premieres as well as readings of new and international work for Druid Theatre Company and The Dublin Theatre Festival.
